Road Trip Itinerary Details:
Day 1: Manali – Atal Tunnel – Kaza
The road trip begins in Manali, the most loved vacation spot renowned for its breathtaking scenery. The road passes through the recently built Atal Tunnel, an engineering marvel that drastically cuts down on the amount of time it takes to get to Spiti. As elevation rises, the topography increasingly alters from green valleys to rocky, barren terrain. The drive provides breathtaking views of the mountain surroundings as it winds the way along the Spiti River. Overnight stays are arranged in Kaza.
Day 2: Kaza – Pin Valley – Dhankar – Tabo
Today a trip to Pin Valley famous for its picturesque view and the Kungri Monastery, kick starts the day’s venture. The tour then goes to Dhankar, where the ancient Dhankar Monastery stands preciously on a cliff overlooking the confluence of the Spiti and Pin Rivers. An excursion to Dhankar Lake could be made. The 1000-year-old Tabo Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the destination of the day and is popular for its ancient sculptures and murals. Day 3: Tabo – Komic – Hikkim – Langza – Key – Kaza
The day’s ultimate objective is to explore the high-altitude villages surrounding Kaza. The tour covers a visit to Komic, Hikkim, and Langza, offering stunning views and unique cultural experiences. Hikkim is renowned for boasting the world’s highest post office. Langza is popular for the massive Buddha statue overlooking the valley and its fossil finds. The road trip goes on to Key Monastery with a view of the Spiti River from the top of the mountain. Return to Kaza for the night's relaxation.
Day 4: Kaza – Kibber – Chicham – Kunzum La – Chandratal
The group tour will proceed towards Chicham, where there is Asia’s highest suspension bridge and Kibber, a high-altitude town. The route ascends to Kunzum La, a high-altitude mountain pass with magnificent views of the nearby peaks that link Spiti and Lahaul. Chandratal Lake is a high-altitude lake with stunning turquoise waters and one of the most picturesque lakes in the Himalayas.
Day 5: Chandratal – Chhatru – Atal Tunnel – Manali
Witnessing the Chandratal Lake’s peaceful scenery is how the day begins. The route will return through Chhatru and the Atal Tunnel to Manali. As the group is coming back to Manali, today will be a long travel day. Stay overnight in Manali.
Day 6: Buffer Day
The day is inserted as a safety cushion to accommodate flexibility in the case of unexpected delays, like landslides or weather-related road closures. It can be used for relaxation and recreation or further excursion to Kaza and surrounding areas. Since the routes in the mountains can be unstable, this is a very important segment of the trip.
