Itinerary details:
Day 1: Manali – Atal Tunnel – Sissu / Gondola
Set off in the morning from Manali, assemble in our vehicles, and take a drive straight to the beautiful Lahaul Valley. Take a drive through the Atal Tunnel, the world’s biggest highway tunnel at 9 km in length to reach here. At 3000 meters altitude, the tunnel is built in the Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas on cutting-edge specs. The drive into the Lahaul district after going through the tunnel.
Suddenly the scenery is different, and you find yourself surrounded by giant mountains that are justifiably beautiful. Discover the sissu before resuming your trip to Gondola village, popular for its glacier landscape and Himalayan Mountain facing you straight away. You will be sleeping in a beautiful homestay or camping. We also utilize this day to acclimatize to Lahaul’s high altitude by taking short walks and consuming plenty of water.
Day 2: Gondola – Tandi – Udaipur – Trilokpur – Gondola
Today, we will proceed to the west part of Lahaul Valley. Tandi is where Chandra and Bhagha rivers meet, and will be the next stop. The river will finally drain into Pakistan and the Arabian Sea, which is nowadays called the Chenab. We continue in the direction of Udaipur village. The Lahaul valley is also found here in the form of the small town of Udaipur, famous for its conventional architecture and nature.
The town is considered a religious hub by many residents and contains several ancient Buddhist monasteries. Explore the ancient Marikula Mata Temple steeped in artistic value and explored by pilgrims of Hindu as well as Buddhist religions. We’re moving to Trilokpur next – a Hindu temple named Trilokpur Temple near Udaipur. One of the most revered Hindu shrines in the region, the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is popular for its intricate design carvings and pilgrims. Travellers must be respectful of the religious importance of the temple and sensitive to local customs and traditions.
Day 3: Gondola – Keylong – Jispa – Deepak Tal – Suraj Tal – Baralacha La – Gondola
On the Leh-Manali road trip, we’ll take a drive to the northeastern Lahaul Valley, amongst the highest regions of Himachal Pradesh. You’re not driving straight to Baralacha Pass today. There are going to be many pit stops along the way, including Keylong, Jispa, Deepak Tal, Zingzing Bar, and Suraj Tal. Located at 4800 meters above sea level, Suraj Tal is a high-altitude lake. The lake is considered one of the most scenic lakes in India and is surrounded by snow-clad mountains.
Also known as the Lake of the Sun God, it is considered the third highest lake in the country and the 25th highest in the world. The Baralacha Pass is a high mountain pass at 4892 meters above sea level. It offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and lies on the border between Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh. We now make an overnight stop at our homestays or campgrounds.
Day 4: Gondola- Sissu- Atal Tunnel- Manali
Today, we’ll depart from Gondola to Sissu to undertake a swift trek to the breathtaking Sissu waterfall on the eve of our departure from the Lahaul Valley. Since many birds inhabit the region, there’s also potential for bird spotting along the way. We proceed by way of the Solang Valley and Atal Tunnel afterwards to reach Manali.
