Overview
A Himachal Winter Snowfall Special Tour of 5 Nights 6 Days is literally a wonderland experience. During December and February, the scenery alters as the emerald green treen covered by a thick layer of snow. The 5 nights 6 days package is the most sought after by travellers hoping to increase their chance of witnessing snowfall firsthand while residing in a hill station. The snowfall special tour focuses on the high-altitude zones of Shimla and Manali because the geographical conditions there are perfect for adventure sports like skiing and tubing.
Itinerary Details:
Day 1: Shimla Arrival
Your trip begins once you arrive in Shimla, commonly from Chandigarh or Delhi. As you climb, colonial buildings begin appearing, which are often highlighted by frost on their rooftop. Check into your accommodation and enjoy a cup of Himachali tea. Spend the evening walking along The Ridge. In the winter, this large place gives a clear view of the snow-capped Himalayan mountains. You may get to witness the town’s first dusting of snow at this point if it snows in Mussoorie. Visit the beautiful yellow Christ Church, such a pretty sight when it is snowing.
Day 2: Kufri Excursion
Kufri is located 15 kms from Shimla, at an altitude of 2720 meters, and marks the beginning of areas in the region that receive heavy snow.
Snow Point is densely covered with snow, where you can ride on a horse/mule to reach the peak.
The activities like skiing and tobogganing are a must-try.
Spot the rare Western Tragopan and Himalayan Monal, which contrast nicely against the snow-capped backdrop.
Later, get back to Shimla and explore the Lakkar Bazaar for wooden articles and woollens to buy.
Day 3: Manali Transfer
Today is a long yet lovely trip, from the Shivalik ranges down to the Beas valley. The route includes a journey through Sundar Nagar Lake and Pandoh Dam. Lately visit a Shawl manufacturing factory. Weavers in Kullu stay active during the winters as well, so you can acquire original Patti to protect you from the cold weather during the rest of your trip. Arrive in the evening at Manali, at 2050 m. The temperature here would be significantly higher than in Shimla.
Day 4: Solang Valley & Atal Tunnel
The special part of the snowy tour. While Rohtang Pass remains closed due to heavy snowfall during winter, the Atal Tunnel has changed the face of tourism during winter. Adventurer’s paradise is well known as Solang Valley, where paragliding over snowcapped meadows and amateur skiing are also offered. Drive through the 5.6-mile-long Atal Tunnel, one of the highest tunnels in the world. Coming out the other side into the Lahaul Valley is surreal; the environment changes from snow-dusted to deep freeze polar desert. If the roads are passable, head to frozen Sissu Lake and waterfall, which often turn into a big ice sculpture in January.
Day 5: Manali Local Sightseeing
After a healthy breakfast, the day is spent gaining insight into the local culture and the “hippie” atmosphere of the Alps. Hadimba Devi Temple is a wooden shrine in the middle of a giant cedar forest. The contrast between the dark wood and white snow is a photographer’s dream. Immerse in the natural sulfur springs in Vashisht Hot Springs. It’s a nice feeling to be at almost 40-degree Celsius water when the air outside is cold. Enjoy the last night in the cafes of Old Manali. Café 1947 and Lazy Dog offer live music, wood-fired heating, and delicious food.
Day 6: Departure
Before having breakfast to bid each other adieu with the frozen Beas River as the backdrop, it was time to head back. Pick up some apricot oil or apple jam at the Tibetan Market. Return to Chandigarh and Delhi. Come down from the hills with memories of winters in your heart.
Himachal Winter Survival Guide:
The layering system is good. Do not carry one big coat, instead, take a thermal base layer, a mid-layer of fleece, an outer shell that is both waterproof and windproof.
Regular sneakers would be drenched. Either rent gumboots/snow boots from “Snow Points in Solang or Kufri” for about ₹100 to ₹200 per day.
Protect your skin from the ultraviolet rays by the reflection of snow. Even when it is very cold, people can experience a “snow burn.” Apply high SPF sunscreen and lip protection.
Keep a bottle of brandy, honey, or warm ginger water available to keep your body temperature stable.
In heavy snowfall, conventional vehicles tend to skid. We offer you a vehicle that is fitted with adequate ground clearance or snow chains.
